Richard SmithAs one of the co-founders and directors of BrightSourced, Richard has utilised his many years of operational, in-depth procurement knowledge, business strategy and general management experience to help build and run a consultancy specialising in procurement and spend analysis.

Richard gained his first experience of purchasing at Safeway from 1992 – 1996. Since that time his career has spanned senior procurement roles within food distribution companies such as 3663 and the Compass Group, as well as Operations Director and Managing Director roles within global procurement consultancies operating in the UK, US and Far East.

Richard has extensive experience in managing procurement projects and teams for the retail, food manufacturing, automotive, distribution, professional services, and finance industries, and in the last 20 years he has overseen over 1000 procurement projects on behalf of the companies he has worked for, and the clients he has served.

Whatever there is to know about procurement, Richard knows it. From global procurement and supply chain, to purchasing, cost reduction, change management, category management, eProcurement, eSourcing, eAuctions, spend analysis and market intelligence.

Richard spends his spare time with his family and his Labrador Barney. He loves being outdoors – either sailing or camping – and he is also an accomplished tennis coach.

Simon SmithAs one of the co-founders and directors of BrightSourced, Simon has utilised his many years of senior sales, business development, business strategy and general management experience to help build and run a consultancy specialising in procurement and spend analysis.

Having spent a number of years working alongside companies such as Sainsburys, The Co-Op, Tesco, Morrisons and Asda, delivering outsourced enterprise procurement solutions, Simon understands the business requirements of these audiences and is able to create solutions to meet their needs.

With a career spanning energy trading, procurement and IT services, Simon is an expert in devising commercial strategies to help organisations deliver fast revenue growth and profitability. Simon has also worked with VC backed businesses to help structure and deliver aggressive global growth plans, which led to several businesses successfully being sold into FTSE and Fortune 100 corporations.

Simon is an accomplished leader and an entrepreneur, and thrives in a fast-paced business environment. He is also a family man with two energetic sons, as well as a self-confessed adrenaline sports junky and marathon runner.

Simon has a Maths degree from University College London.

PhilMcGuinessPhil joined BrightSourced in 2015 and is Operations Director. Having started Procurement career with Princes foods, Phil has held a number of Senior positions within the Food Retail &Food Manufacturing industries.  Phil also has extensive experience in Procurement Consultancy.

Phil has experience in managing large and diverse Procurement projects and has successfully delivered eAuction projects for clients such as ASDA, BDW, Wickes, to name a few.

Phil is an accomplished Senior Manager with experience in managing large multi-site Procurement and Consultancy teams.

In addition to his love of music and going to concerts, Phil is also a keen sports fan and likes to keep fit by running Half Marathons & Kayaking.  Phil has two young children and lives with his partner Amy and Dog Weller.

Phil has a Masters Degree in Management Consultancy and a Business degree from Liverpool University.

Justin StokesJustin joined BrightSourced as a Non-Executive Director in May 2014.  His full time position is currently the Commercial Director of Spenceram, an energy management services firm focused on the renewable energy generation sector in Europe.

Previously to Spenceram, Justin was on the board of Utilyx Limited as Sales Director where he took a virtual start up through to a trade sale to MITIE PLC.  An experienced and knowledgeable energy professional, during his tenure at Utilyx, Justin successfully managed the sales, marketing and operations teams including legal functions, and was responsible for all aspects of client services and service delivery.

Prior to Utilyx, Justin was Sales Director within the Psion PLC group where he was part of the executive team that set up a joint venture with United Business Media.

Outside work Justin is a keen cyclist and football fan, and his 4 young daughters keep him very busy at the weekends.

Cara FramptonCara joined BrightSourced in March 2012 and is a Key Account Director.

After completing a BSc in Logistics Systems Management in 1997, Cara began her career in Sourcing by working for Sainsburys PLC as a Project Manager within the Supply Chain, Marketing and Buying Divisions. During her last two years at the retailer, Cara headed up the eSourcing initiative, working closely with the buyers, technical teams and collaboratively with other retailers to deliver an effective eAuction program. Cara and her team managed procurement projects for goods as varied as bacon, loose ginger, uniforms, German wine and gondola equipment.

Upon leaving Sainsbury’s Cara joined the procurement consultancy TradingPartners and was quickly promoted to Director level delivering over 100 eAuction projects for clients such as Woolworths, Booker, Reed Elsevier, Manchester City Council, Thames Valley University and DTZ – all of whom she built excellent relationships with.

Cara’s areas of speciality are eSourcing, eProcurement, spend analysis, global sourcing, market intelligence, logistics and supply chain. She is an expert in running procurement projects for the following industries: retail, the public sector, B2B, food manufacturing and professional services.

Apart from her husband and two daughters, Cara’s main passion is travelling – from road trips across the US, to searching for powder for her snowboarding holidays, to experiencing different cultures in countries such as India, or just relaxing in the sun. Cara also loves concerts and festivals.
